JIMMY SANTIAGO BACA
Jimmy Santiago Baca a well known Chicano poet know for his art of writing about immigrants was not an ordinary writer. He had a rough childhood from getting abounded from his parents and getting raised by his grandparents.
He never really felt that motherly love or fatherly love so he fell in the wrong foot steps. He fell in drugs, alcohol, and fighting, later he became a very well known drug dealer. He got five years in prison for handling narcotics but while he was in prison he decided that that life wouldn't be for him.
Baca had decided that he would learn to read and write while he was locked up he wanted to make a use of his time. A couple years passed and Baca had learned to read and write that he had wrote a novel about how it is to be locked up and all the different type of people that are coming in daily to prison. His novel later got published by a Louisiana University. His life was slowly getting better a church later contacted him and he was offered a spot as a mentor to help teenagers that where going through a rough time get help. His way of letting them express the way they felt was by showing them with poetry.

His story is very inspiring in my opinion. It takes a lot of guts to be able to leave a certain life behind to start a new one. I didn't really know much about Baca so this helped me get to know him a little better; thanks for posting this! :)
