Fahrenheit 451 Essay
Ray Bradbury once said "There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them". Ray Bradbury author of the infamous book Fahrenheit 451 a book written to inform former generations of the world to keep reading in a persons daily life. Because if not the world will become a place of ignorance and technology will possibly take over the world. You see in Fahrenheit 451 Bradbury talks about a society that is not allowed to read books but instead burned for pleasure. Crazy right! But not only that technology has become so advanced that there are mechanical hounds to replace an ordinary dog. But this mechanical hound comes with a twist, instead of it cuddling with you and showing you affection it injects some type of liquid that will make you seem loopy just like a drug. Technology is just keeping all these citizens busy for one day then they are all out of thinking for themselves technology will take over. This book is here to introduce how 2018 will be if somethings don't change.
The role of technology in today's life almost feels necessary to some people. Like if they don't have technology with them they feel like they can't do anything they can't think for themselves. For example Montag's wife Mildred. Mildred is so used to watching these huge parlor walls because she doesn't want to think of what a miserable life she has. And a way to escape all that is to watch her favorite T.V programs and act like she is one of those characters in the drama to keep herself entertained and not depressed. Technology is used to control people and stop them from thinking for themselves. These parlor walls are all scattered through this city. Whether it's from riding the subway, going to a store, to even just having them stuck on your walls. But without technology the public would have no other choice than to actually think for themselves and those parlor walls will no longer be a distraction from them not realizing that they are being controlled by technology.
Throughout the book Bradbury predicts certain things in such a discreet way that will later come true in a couple of years. For example he predicted seashells but were later known as earbuds or like a self- driving car that was also used as a reference to one of his previous poems "The Pedestrian". He also predicted the number one thing that almost every house hold will have. A television used to distract people from the real world. But I think that the main reason for him to be predicting all these everyday used items is to take away communication and interaction with different people. Which is exactly what this society wants to do because if people start to interact with each other they will being to start thinking and later on figure out that they are being controlled. And that is why earbuds, self driving cars, and television is key to this society. To stop any way people can interact with each other and just keep themselves busy with technology.
