Theme: the main idea
Tone: authors attitude towards the audience, subject, characters
Mood: a temporary state of mind or feeling
Diction: the words the author uses
Syntax: how the author puts words together

Stupid: lacking intelligence or common sense
Adumbrate: report or represent in outline
Apotheosis: the highest point in the development of something; culmination or climax
Ascetic: characterized by or suggesting the practice of severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence, typically for religious reasons
Bauble: something that is superficially attractive but useless or worthless
Beguile: charm or enchant (someone), sometimes in a deceptive way
Burgeon: begin to grow or increase rapidly; flourish
Complement: one or more words, phrases, or clauses governed by a verb 
Contumacious: stubbornly or willfully disobedient to authority
Curmudgeon: a bad-tempered or surly person
Didactic: intended to teach, particularly in having moral instruction as an ulterior motive
